From stone to ceramic, from exposed brick to porcelain stoneware tiles. From neutral to more bold colours, but always suitable for the most sophisticated homes.
Television is part of our contemporary life today and the living room is the area of the home where the family talks and the new hearth is the protagonist. High tech solutions for the home today represent a real must-have and are able to increase the comfort of those who live there. The wall that houses the television becomes central and it is not just an entertainment element but a technological and design element that furnishes the home, which is why it must be valorised.
How to design your TV wall
By going through a careful study of the general characteristics of the home and the style that characterises the furniture as a whole, we can make the TV wall a strong point of the living area. This area must be functional and aesthetically appealing.
Equipped or minimalist wall?
The first style choice to make concerns the type of wall we want to create, be it an equipped wall, a minimalist wall where the TV can be suspended or a combination of them.
The equipped wall seems to be the most functional solution because it provides countless shelves and containers to use, however it exposes us to the risk of filling these spaces with useless and unused objects, weighing down the environment. We therefore recommend dosing these elements well.
A minimalist wall, equipped with some containers to store objects relating to the TV area, seems to be the most effective solution for not having cables, remote controls and video games in sight without the room as a whole.
The use of plasterboard
Plasterboard is an optimal solution for dividing spaces in the house. Through the use of plasterboard, we can create a shaped wall where to place the TV and a niche where to hide cables and connections, obtaining a very clean and minimalist effect. On the wall thus obtained, we can fix a shelf or a container and suspend the TV and also insert a niche dedicated to the fireplace.
How to decorate the TV wall
Once the wall where the TV will be housed has been designed and built, we proceed with its decoration, in line with the chosen style.
Let’s now see the main TV wall decoration styles and the related materials to create them.
Contemporary style TV wall
Once we have created our plasterboard or brick wall, we can cover it using resin or concrete effect porcelain stoneware slabs, to obtain a minimal and contemporary effect. The colours to be used are generally neutral, warmer or colder tones, depending on the choice of the rest of the furnishings in the room. A storage unit in matt lacquered wood in tone with the wall but lighter or darker will be perfect for this style. A contemporary style sofa with straight lines and natural fabrics will complete the furnishings.
A wall that evokes luxury and elegance
By choosing marble-effect porcelain stoneware slabs, you obtain a luxurious and elegant effect. If the marble chosen is light, it will illuminate the environment, a dark or black marble will be a perfect backdrop for our latest generation TV. The containers can be shiny or with a metallic effect such as copper, bronze or gold. A sofa with curved and soft lines, which gives harmony to the environment, covered with bouclé fabric, which has recently become trendy again.
Industrial style
We clad with red bricks, in perfect New York style, if we want to obtain an industrial effect. Let’s add an LED sign and a natural wooden container, a leather sofa, a lamp to the projector and the scenario is perfect.
The vintage style
To obtain a vintage style, we can use reclaimed wood planks to cover the wall, or more simply rustic parquet with knots or wood-effect porcelain stoneware. A classic and romantic style sofa will be perfect.
A natural stone accent wall pairs with several styles
Stone is by its nature eclectic and transversal, depending on the type of stone, cuts and finishes chosen, it can be inserted into projects that follow different styles, from classic and contemporary, to vintage and industrial. Polished marble is classic and elegant, slate in dark tones can give a contemporary touch or warm the environment if light and warm tones are chosen. Being inserted in a decorative context, in this case the problems of maintenance and treatment typical of natural stone do not arise.
Combine fireplace and TV in the same room
Let’s not forget the undisputed protagonist of the living area, where it can be inserted: the fireplace! Being able to combine TV and fireplace is also a functional choice, as well as an aesthetic one, especially in particularly cold areas in winter, to fully enjoy your living room. To combine these two elements correctly, it must be taken into account that they are two light sources and that the fireplace is a powerful heat source, which could damage the TV. Maintaining the right distance between them is essential.
An interesting solution is to place them side by side on the same wall, with a suitable and heat-resistant covering, such as porcelain stoneware which is fireproof, but with the right distance and creating different depths, in order to isolate the two elements, while still placing them in the same context.
